Positive: After checking the weather and ferry status, I booked this guest house on a whim the day before I arrived. Because many people take the overnight ferry and arrive in Ōshima in the early morning, the guest house kindly allows guests to drop off their luggage before check-in. The guest house is just up the hill from Motomachi Pier. The facilities are as expected for a guest house. There are no amenities so it’s best to pack your own skincare, toothbrush, towels, etc. There is shampoo and body wash but if you’re picky like me, bring your own. There is also only one shower for everyone to share so I recommend showering early so you don’t have to wait. The rooms auto-lock with a code, which was cool since you don’t have to worry about misplacing a key, but it made a loud beeping sound which was noisy in the middle of the night when I had to use the toilet. I really liked the at-home feeling of the place and the staff were friendly and easy to talk to. Unfortunately because I can’t drive, I was out most of the day utilizing the bus system so I hope next time I can have a drink and chat more slowly with the staff.
