Summary: when we first arrived at Halo Homestay - we were concerned because it was not in a very nice area. We didn't realise how big Halong Bay city is. we were expecting sleepy little fishing village!! NOT!! there are 2 distinct areas 1. locals 2. tourists. This homestay is in the locals area. Its not a pretty area by a long shot but our lovely host Hien made up for it by taking us on a tour to one of the most beautiful temples I have ever seen. she gave us a free tour of her hometown and we felt very differently about the place once we got to hear her stories. definitely worth staying here prior to joining a Halong Bay cruise as its just down the road rather than long haul from Hanoi.
