Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Extremely convenient for Yamagata station, also great if you are taking buses to Yamadera, Zao Onsen etc. Lovely room with window you could actually see out of (rare in Japanese business hotels) and view of the city. Comfortable bed, desk, TV etc, all very clean. Hotel pyjamas! Very quiet.

Negative: NO HOT WATER!! I stayed for 3 nights despite this as it was in such a convenient location, and as I went to an onsen or sento every day, I didn't really need a shower at the hotel. I don't know what was wrong - they said that if you waited long enough, hot water would spring forth... this was not true! One morning I managed to get a lukewarm shower after about 15 minutes running the tap, but the rest of the time the water was completely cold. A bit of a defect in a hotel!! There seemed to be hardly any guests, and one of the reception ladies was very odd. A bit of a strange place, but it was a good price, and a decent base for sightseeing, despite the lack of hot water in the room. If I was booking again I would ask somebody to call the hotel in advance and ask about this.
