Summary: Secrets Playa Blanca gets a lot right on the surface and falls short where it counts day to day. The grounds are genuinely beautiful, the pools are excellent, and almost every part of the physical property is well done. Our oceanfront room was incredibly nice, easily one of the highlights of the stay. The only complaint there was a blinking green light in the room that got annoying after a while, the kind of small thing that is easy to overlook but hard to ignore once you notice it. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. Service was lackluster at best. Poolside service was incredibly slow, and the restaurants were not much better. You can plan on waiting a long time for even simple things, which sets the tone for the whole stay. The food matched the service. Nothing was impressive, and a lot of it felt borderline cafeteria quality. The room service menu was laughable, with very little worth ordering. The “preferred” area was nice in theory, but it was not enforced at all. People who were not preferred guests took over the sun beds constantly, and there were nowhere near enough beds for the number of people at the resort to begin with. Then management put out a sign asking guests not to hold beds for more than 45 minutes, which is almost funny when it can take that long just to get a basic salad at a restaurant in property because you cannot find anyone at the pool to take your order.
